COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Homer & Staton equip people to deal with challenging situations and people. Most people communicate adequately in everyday situations, however, stressful situations can cause us to change our communication style to our disadvantage. We provide training that gives people the opportunity to practice a range of approaches to stressful situations, we can improve the experience, not only for the participant, but for their future clients as well.
Homer & Staton is one of the UK`s leading exponents of communication skills training. We use actors and facilitators to provide `realistic` situations in which participants have the opportunity to learn, practice and receive feedback to improve their skills.
The use of actors in training is called Forum Theatre. Back in 1983 Professor Patrick Pietroni used it at St Mary`s Hospital in London. Professor Pietroni wanted to improve the communication skills of medical students. He hired actors to act as patients allowing the medical students to practice in realistic situations and also receive feedback from the `patient`.
Communication skills can only be acquired through practice and not just by learning theories. Our style of training has significant advantages over other forms of training in that it avoids the use of role play which can often embarrass and disengage people rather than make them receptive to learning new skills.
